Daniel Fitzgerald, 2nd son of Miles and Ruby Fitzgerald

We had a place called prehistoric land. It was a large ditch with some dead trees and logs in it. Our youthful imaginations turned these logs into dinosaurs. They had names but I don’t remember them.

Our Dad made us some rafts. We floated around on them. Loren and I had a kelp harvesting business at one time but it never panned out.

We often went about a mile into the woods to Leese Lake. There were plenty of bullheads. The meat tasted like mud. We also went down the road to Woodpile Lake. I caught a bass once. I thought it was huge but I doubt if it even weighed a pound. One time on the way back I had a cane pole across my handle bars. It got caught in the willows along our driveway and I was thrown in the air. I had the choice of taking road rash on my fore arms or on my back. I chose flipping over as I fell. I survived.

With 8 kids we rarely went out for food or entertainment. I remember going to drive-in movies a couple of times. The 7th Voyage of Sinbad was one of these gems. We were amazed by the special effects. My kids see old movies like these and laugh at the fakey special effects.
